Shimla: The clearance by the Centre to include 12 castes of Himachal Pradesh in the OBC list has raised the hopes of several other communities which aim to derive the benefits of the reservation policy.

After amendment to the OBC list, 12 castes will be included in the OBC list. Presently, 49 castes in HP are included in the OBC list. However, curtains are yet to be raised on the castes which have been included under the reserved category.

But it is believed that these are the same castes which were recommended by the central team of the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).

HPCBC and NCBC had recommended the inclusion of Popo, Brahmin, Jhiwar, Jhir, Dhakaut, Bujhru, Tanak, Sunar, Khora, Vohra, Bangalia, Acharya and Charj in the OBC list.

It is worth mentioning that several areas in HP are considered as the OBC dominated.
