New Delhi: Keeping in mind the 2012 elections in five states, the Centre has started its planning on the security arrangements.

On the recommendation of Election Commission, the Home Ministry has approved the deployment of 700-800 companies of Central Security Forces during the 2012 assembly polls.

Election Commission has asked the Home Ministry to instruct security forces to be prepared between March and May 2012.

Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Punjab, Goa and Manipur are due in 2012.

A senior official said, “Last month, Home Secretary RK Singh met with Chief Election Commissioner SY Qureshi in the presence of other officials to discuss some important issues related to the matter. During the meeting a consensus was met on the deployment of the security forces. A final decision would be taken after the election dates are finalized.”
