The BJP-led central government's intention is to make the state power surplus in future to bring in more investments for industrial development, Hari Babu said while addressing the new members who joined the party here on Friday.

During the earlier Congress rule, the state had witnessed heavy power cuts leading to closure of several industries and the mandal headquarters and villages suffered without power for hours together, he said.

The situation changed after the BJP-led government came to power at the Centre, which has assured sufficient power supply for the state, he said.

The central government, soon after assuming power, cleared the Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project which is essential for Visakhapatnam city for providing sufficient water to the industries and for drinking purpose. Once it is completed, the city will receive 23.44 MGD (millions of gallons per day) water, the BJP leader said.

The Centre has also planned to develop inland water ways of more than 600 kms through the canals between Kakinada and Puducherry with a cost of Rs 2,300 crores for transportation of goods via big motorboats, he said.

Visakhapatnam is also one of the 100 cities to be developed as a smart city in the country, he said. He urged the newly inducted members to strive hard for strengthening the party. He said that the youth are showing interest in joining the party.
