New Delhi: With New Delhi completing its 100th year as the national capital of the modern era India on December 12, the Union Government and the Delhi Government are making elaborate plans to celebrate the occasion in a grand manner.

The Delhi Government has already prepared a proposal to the tune of Rs 11.12 crore for the celebrations which will include adventure sports, exhibitions, cycle rickshaw and eco race, Qawwali, Mushaira, poetry convention, kite flying competition and Ragini competition for the music loving masses.

Adding cherry to the cream will be a youth band festival at Connaught Place. A string of events would be organized at Shalimar Bagh, Qutub Minar, Roshanara Garden and Purana Qila.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit called a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the preparations by the state government. The next meeting in this regard would be held on coming Tuesday.

It is worth mentioning that Delhi was declared as national capital by King George V on December 12, 1911.
