New Delhi: A high-power committee of the Central government has given green signal to construct a national memorial in the vicinity of Rajghat Samadhi.

After the completion of the memorial, it will provide space for the last rites of any VVIP after his demise. The biography of the deceased will be written in golden words on the memorial.

According to sources, the Urban Development Ministry has directed the Central Public Work Department (CPWD) to start work on the memorial as early as possible.

The CPWD had sent a draft regarding the memorial to the Urban Development Ministry 10 months back after which the high powered committee gave a nod to it.

As per the scheme, 17 acres land was sanctioned for the construction of the memorial where a semi-circular granite wall will be build.

The wall will have pillars on both the sides which will have Ashoka Chakra engraved on them. One part inside the semi-circular wall will be dedicated as crematory site of VVIPs.
