New Delhi: Residents of unauthorized ‘affluent’ colonies like Sainik Farms, Mahendru Enclave, Anantram Dairy in the national capital have a reason to smile. The Central government has approved the recommendations of Delhi government making pitch for regularization of these areas.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had requested the Centre that price of property in these 16 colonies be decided so that they can be regularized. The Union Urban Development Ministry is yet to take a concrete decision on it but hinted at their regularization.

Official sources in the Delhi Urban Development Department said that the Central government had sought opinions from Delhi government on the draft guidelines for the colonies termed as affluent and the strategy to organize these areas.

In its reply, Delhi government had said that it’s in favour of regularizing the ‘affluent’ colonies citing that these colonies must be brought under a separate policy for regularization by slapping hefty taxes on the residents.

Sheila Dikshit government has already regularized 895 unauthorized colonies, while it is working to bring 300 more colonies under its purview of developmental work.
