Shahjahanpur: With competitive populism becoming a template to woo the electorates in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid declared that the government is mulling to give reservation to upper caste poor and people belonging to backward class.

As assembly elections are round the corner, the political stakeholders in Uttar Pradesh, SP and BSP, have raised objections to inaction of the Central government towards implementing the recommendation made by Sachar committee and demanded quota for Muslims.

Khurshid said that instead of giving reservation to only Muslim community, the government is planning to include all minorities in the quota.

Replying to a question on FDI in retail, the Law Minister said that the issue is just on hold and has not come to an end. He said if the country does not entertain foreign players to bring reforms in the retail sector how could one expect that Indian companies like Tata and Sahara will get the same response abroad.
