New Delhi: Government is considering setting up a dedicated security force to further strengthen the security of airports across the country.

According to a written reply by Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi in Lok Sabha on Wednesday, a study to set up a dedicated Aviation Security Force (ASF) was conducted by Consultant of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Besides, several measures like provision of closed circuit TV cameras at terminal buildings, X-ray baggage system to screen 100 percent baggage, random checking at the entry gate of terminal buildings and regular security audit among others are being taken to ensure safety and security of the nation's airports, the Minister said.

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has noticed five incidents of security lapses -- two in Madurai, one each in Udaipur, Kolkata and Tiruchi -- in the past three months.

"Government is considering a comprehensive security review of the aviation security to strengthen the overall security at airports," Ravi said.
