New Delhi: There is a good news for paddy cultivators ahead of the festive season of Diwali. The Central Government is planning to offer Rs 80 per quintal bonus to the paddy farmers and the official announcement in this regard is likely to be made next week.

According to reports, the Ministry of Agriculture is planning again to put forth the proposal of Rs 80 per quintal bonus along with the MSP for paddy before the Union Cabinet meeting.

The Cabinet meeting earlier held in the month of June had refused the Ministry’s proposal on the pretext of inflation. However, it had stated that this can be given a thought when the public procurement of paddy will begin.

It may be noted here that the bonus amount is fixed as per the recommendation of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP).

The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for common variety of paddy in current kharif season is fixed at Rs 1,000 per quintal while Rs 1,030 per quintal has been decided for A-grade of paddy.

With Rs 80 bonus, the MSP for both the varieties will increase by Rs 1,080 per quintal and 1,110 per quintal respectively.
Earlier, the Haryana government had announced Rs 200 bonus on the MSP for paddy.
