Lucknow: In an evident act of disparity, the Central Government has shown more concern for districts coming under the constituencies of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. (JPN/Bureau)
It has come to light that the villages of Raebareli and Sultanpur, the parliamentary constituencies of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi respectively, have received special treatment from the Central government whereas the residents of the remaining 1.28 lakh villages in Uttar Pradesh are still living in lantern age.
According to reports, the Centre has cleared an electricity project for 8,591 small villages of Raebareli and Sultanpur districts whereas the state government’s project worth Rs 11,000 crore, proposed to the Centre two years back, for providing electricity to more than 8.7 lakh households is yet to see light.
This delay has compelled the Chairman & Managing Director of UP Power Corporation Limited, Navneet Sehgal, to write a letter to the Central government seeking their approval at the earliest under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana.
Besides, another proposal of the UP government for the electrification of villages with a population of more than 300 people is yet to be cleared, said Sehgal.
Following the request of Chief Minister Mayawati to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Union Ministry of Power has asked the state government to send the proposal once again.
The state government, which had forwarded the proposal worth Rs 8538.48 crore for 64,494 small villages to the Rural Electrification Corporation Limited in January this year, is still awaiting a response from the Centre.
