New Delhi: Even if the Congress-led UPA government had unleashed havoc at Ramlila ground during anti-graft agitation launched by Baba Ramdev, the Planning Commission has asked the government to join hands with yoga guru for bringing health reforms proposed in the12th Five Year Plan.

Acknowledging the contributions of Ramdev in bringing awareness in yoga, the Plan panel has recommended encouraging the non-government organisations like Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogpeeth to facilitate reforms in health sector.

“Allopathy alone will not suffice to bring diametric change in the health sector. All forms of medical practices existing in the country including Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani and others must be encouraged so that no one is left uncured in the country,” said a member of committee on health.

“The government alone cannot monitor all the paraphernalia of manufacturing drugs and supplying them to the needy people. Hence, it is important that the non-government organizations should come forward to help the government bring reform in the health scenario in the country,” he added.

“Yoga and Ayurveda must be incorporated in the syllabus of MBBS so that the Allopathic doctors also understand these practices,” the Plan Panel suggested.

The Plan Panel has also recommended inclusion of the traditional medical experts in all the primary health centres and government hospitals.
