New Delhi: Along with ground operations against the Naxals, the Central government has decided to uproot them from their base through awareness campaigns.

With the help of Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Union Ministry for Home Affairs is engaged in giving a final shape to this strategy.

Apart from this, the government has asked the Naxal-infected states to spread awareness campaign against them at the local level.

According to a senior official, the decision of a campaign war against the Naxals was taken during the conference of top most police officials of the country held last month.

As per the DGPs, the CBI probe in Naxal leader Azad’s encounter and Binayak Sen’s release was a result of publicity campaign from Naxals.

According to highly placed sources, Naxal-hit states have been asked to highlight the wrong doings of the Naxalites amongst the masses through local media and start a smear campaign on a large scale.

Meanwhile, the MHA will handle the reins with the help of IB for which a strategy is being mulled. The campaign is expected to start within two months.
