New Delhi: In order to bring more transparency in the ‘Bharat Saakshar Mission’, the Centre is going to start a portal which will have the details of the entire auditing of the mission.

The Centre had launched ‘Saakshar Bharat Mission’ in 2009 to reduce illiteracy, particularly among adult women by 2012. It aims at making 7 crore adults literate which includes 6 crore women of above 15 years of age.

The mission has been allocated Rs 6000 crore during11th Five Year Plan.

Several cases of irregularities have been surfacing in the implementation of the scheme. That is why the Centre has decided to provide detail
information of the Mission on the web portal on a day-to-day basis.

The Union Ministry of Rural Development sources informed Literacy and Sustainable Literacy Centers are running in two lakh villages where information related to audit of the mission can be availed any time.
