Shimla: In a bid to raise the living conditions of BPL families in Himachal Pradesh, the Central Government is going to launch a new residential scheme under the existing Rajiv Awas Yojna.

At the initial stage, the scheme will be started in four districts of Himachal Pradesh including Shimla, Mandi, Sirmour and Solan.

Survey for the selection of families for the scheme has already started.

Centre has already released Rs 63 lakh for the initial survey of the scheme. Similar amount will be released after the work begins.

According to Urban Development Authority and City Planning Department, surveys will be carried in two phases. City Planning Department- carrying the first phase - will mainly concentrate on ascertaining the volume and density of BPL families living in the four districts.

The second phase, which will be carried out by Urban Development Authority, will focus on evaluating the socio-economic status of these families.

Both the reports will be submitted to the Centre after which the work on distribution of homes to these families will be done.
