New Delhi: Observing the incomplete MPLAD projects in different parts of the country due to change of power, the Centre is now considering taking concrete steps to implement the scheme.

While the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has set deadlines for the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) projects, a fixed model will also be prepared for their execution.

Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation Srikant Jena believes that delay in implementation of the projects worth hundreds of crores of rupees have incurred a heavy loss to the government exchequer in the country. Therefore, directions have been issued to complete the projects within a period of 15 months.

Different models will be designed to implement the funds required for the purpose. Also, emphasis will be laid on completing the projects which were put on hold due to the exit of parliamentarians.
If needed, a special provision can also be made in this regard .

However, Jena believes that his ministry must be allowed to monitor the projects before approaching the Prime Minister. He is also planning to run a pilot project to find out at which level the investigation must be carried out and how.
