New Delhi:  In a bid to remove stumbling blocks that are affecting the pace of Ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPP) in the country, the Central Government on Monday decided to seek the opinion of Attorney General of India in this regard.

In a top level meeting headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee late night on Monday, it was decided to seek the intervention of the Attorney General in order to discuss legal measures for the problems coming in UMPP including the Sasan project, boosting electricity generation from different power plants across the country and import of coals in this regard.

Sources said, increase in power generation cost due to inflated rates of coals in the international market were issues of prime concern in the meeting.

The UMPPs which are large power plants that aim at resolving the power crisis in the country, have seen setbacks recently as the price of imported coal has risen drastically.
