Noida: In a major relief for engineers and workers, a machine named CFL (Cable Fault Locators) will now find faults in underground cables without digging roads. The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has asked Noida Authority for five CFL.

The machine works when it is moved over underground wires. It will start beeping when it finds any fault and only that place will be dug for repairing, which will save time and energy.

UPPCL and Noida Authority have set many cables underground in various sectors of Noida, but they did not take into account faults in future.

To find faults in the underground cables, digging was the only option which was a cumbersome and time consuming process.

To avoid such difficult jobs, UPPCL vouched for adopting new technology.

“CFL can detect faults in the underground cables. The machine is switched on after supplying current in the wires,” said UPCCL chief engineer AP Mishra.

The worker operating the machine will wear helmet for safety reasons, he said.

“We have written a letter to the authority for purchasing the machines. However, assurances have been given through talks,” Mishra added.

Machines have been sought for each block and they are expected to arrive soon so that people do not face difficulties due to dug up roads.
