Jammu: Ousted BJP legislator and former Minister of State for Defence, Chaman Lal Gupta has challenged his expulsion from the party in the court. For his alleged involvement in cross voting in state legislative council elections and anti party activities, Gupta was expelled from the party for a period of six years.

Gupta has requested the court to nullify the BJP order to disqualify him as a legislator and expel him from the party.
After hearing Gupta’s petition, the court issued notices to four legislators of BJP including BJP’s parliamentary board secretary.

The four legislators include Ashok Khajuria, Jugal Kishore, Shyam Choudhary and Sukhnandan Choudhary. The next hearing is slated on Friday.

Advocate Zaved Iqwal said Chaman Lal Gupta was elected as the leader of BJP legislative party by 11 legislators. After the cross voting was reported in the state legislative elections, BJP high command had constituted a committee to probe the matter.

Advocate Iqwal said MLA Ashok Khajuria had issued notices to Gupta and six others for disqualification as legislator without any concrete evidence against them.
