Chandigarh: Taking a leaf out of the book of Mumbai and Kolkata, Chandigarh Administration is all set to introduce a Metropolitan Planning Committee (MPC) to avert confrontation among the various committees in expediting the development schemes.

As per the provisions, development work is carried out by the MPC in cities having a population in excess of 10 lakh populations.

The Committee will prepare the blueprint of city’s development and coordinate with Municipality, Panchayats and the administration over development issue.

The idea has been suggested to the Chandigarh Administration in the meeting of Union Home Ministry at Delhi. Several officials of the Chandigarh Administration including Advisor to the Administrator KK Sharma, Home Secretary Ram Niwas and Finance Secretary VK Singh attended the meeting.

It is worth mentioning that the development works are carried out by the Administration, Housing Board, Municipality and Panchayats in the Union Territory Chandigarh.

Representatives of the Local Administration, Union Government, Municipality and the Panchayats will be made members of the proposed committee. The committee is expected to have strength of 30-60 members.
