Garhwal: The Chardham Yatra pilgrims got some respite from heavy rains on Friday, but hurdles in the Yatra are not yet over as continuous blocking of the roads by boulders is creating problems for the moving traffic.

Work is in progress to widen the roads on the Gaurikund National Highway between Fata and Sonprayag making it an easy site for boulders, while the light rains are also playing a spoilsport.

Gangotri Highway was blocked for atleast five hours near Songaad whereas Kedarnath road near Fata-Sonprayag was blocked for two hours due to falling boulders. Also, commuting is still a problem on Garhwal roads.

On Thursday night, Gangotri Highway was opened for the traffic after clearing the rubble in Nalupadi between Dharasu and Devidhar.  Songaad was also blocked due to debris which could be cleared only on Friday morning after great efforts by the BRO jawans.

The BRO has installed adequate machinery to clear the repeated rubble discharge during bad weather.

Boulders keep on blocking the way even during light rains. The highway was blocked for two hours due to boulders at several places. The traffic remains slow while the tourists are facing a tough time being stranded at several places in the bad weather.
