New Delhi: At a time when Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has become the poster boy of the BJP, the Delhi unit of the saffron party at a meeting of its state executives, chaired by city unit chief Vijay Goel, rebuffed an attempt to bring a resolution to congratulate Modi on his appointment as the head of the party’s election campaign committee.

Senior leader Vijender Gupta, former president of Delhi BJP, wanted to present a resolution at the state executive but Goel, who was presiding over the meeting, did not allow him to do so saying “there was no need for it”.

"I rejected the move as only the president can bring such a proposal. Moreover, what was the need for it? The whole party and the country have congratulated him. He has been appointed by the national executive of the party. Then what was the need for a resolution," Goel explained.

Meanwhile, Modi was also found missing from the posters being erected at the venue of the meeting.

A number of senior Delhi BJP leaders, including Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Arti Mehra and Vani Tripathi attended the meet.
