Bhopal: Amidst the controversies erupting over the setting up of National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking to reconsider the establishment of the anti-terror body.

In the letter to the PM, Chouhan urged him to re-establish the proposed NCTC in consultation with the states citing law and order is a state subject.

“States has always been committed towards curbing terrorism and anti-social activities. Hence, excluding states from the functioning of NCTC is an attack to the federal structure of the constitution,” he said.

Underlining that Madhya Pradesh Terrorism and Organised Crime Control Bill was passed by the assembly in 2007 but still waiting for central approval, the chief minister condemned the Central Government’s step behavior with the BJP ruled states.

“The MP government had always been committed to taking steps against terrorism and organised crime. Hence such discrimination is highly unappreciable”.
