According to sources, the case has been handed over to a special wing in the state police.

Jayalalithaa had on Thursday condemned the blasts and ordered a CB-CID probe into the incident.

“I have asked the CB-CID to probe this incident. There is no need for panic as security measures have been tightened,” Jayalalithaa said.

She also expressed grief over the death of a 22-year-old woman and sympathized with the injured.

The Chief Minister announced Rs one lakh ex-gratia to the family of the deceased and Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 to the grievously injured and those who suffered minor injuries respectively.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had yesterday condemned the blasts and said no efforts should be spared to bring the perpetrators to justice. He added that the Centre would provide the Tamil Nadu government all assistance.

Meanwhile, the CISF has issued alert across all domestic and international airports in the country to step up security at these facilities in the wake of the Chennai blasts.
