On the direction of Chief Minister Raman Singh, the Agriculture Department has released notification in this connection from ‘Mantralaya’ last evening, an official statement said on Thursday.

The scheme will cater to paddy, maize, soybean, ground nut, pigeon pea and pulses 'moong' and 'urad' under the insurance cover. For the purpose, the Government of India (GoI) has roped in agriculture insurance companies for all districts, the release said.

Under the scheme, the Agriculture Department will pay the premium grant out of the funds provisioned for the financial year 2014-15. The scheme is mandatory for the indebted farmers in the notified area for the crops while optional for those farmers who are not indebted.

While 50 percent of the premium will be paid by the farmers, the remaining 50 percent will be contributed by the Central and state governments in equal share, the release said.

"It is compulsory for the insurance companies to implement the programme in all the districts," it added.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal has appealed to the farmers to come forward and take advantage of the scheme.
