Raipur: In a major setback to the developmnt of the state, Chhattisgarh High court annulled the land acquired in the districts of Raigarh as well as in Champa-Janjgeer which had been taken away from farmers for setting up a power plant.

Remarkably, the state government had acquired land for four companies.

The High court stricture is being perceived as a shot in the arm of the state government.

Sanjay Kumar, who was fighting the case on behalf of aggrieved farmers, said that the Chhattisgarh High Court annulled the acquisition of thousand acre of fertile land in Raigarh as well as in Champa–Janjgeer districts of the state on Tuesday which had been taken away from farmers forcibly for setting up power station.

Chhattisgarh High Court also slapped a fine in each case which would be given to the petitioners as litigation fee in the case.

Justice Prashant Mishra, in his order, observed that the government move to acquire the fertile land of the farmers would not serve its interest.
