Srinagar: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday reviewed security arrangements for the smooth conduction of Shri Amarnath Yatra. He also scrutinized plans for foiling terrorist attacks and stressed upon the need to maintain the trust of human rights activists of the Valley.

During high level meeting at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Chidambaram took stock of the internal and external security situations of the Valley.

He congratulated Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for making systematic arrangements and for successful completion of Panchayat elections despite militant threat looming large on the state.

The meeting lasted for two hours and strategy for countering militants in the backdrop of Amarnath Yatra was also reviewed.

The Home Minister also visited Pahalgam of Anantpur district where he discussed with four district officers regarding Amarnath yatra.

Earlier, he met Congress unit president Saiffuddin Soz who informed him about various schemes for the welfare of people in the state.
