Kolkata: Meeting longstanding demand of people from Bihar, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced holiday on the occasion of Chhat Puja.

Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra told reporters that the holiday could be availed of by those who would celebrate Chhat Puja. He said the state government has also declared similar sectional holiday on the next Buddha Jayanti.

It is to be noted that the government offices remained closed during entire Durgotsav except for one day.  Mamata Banerjee had announced to close the offices and declare holidays for eleven consecutive days. The move is being seen to bring the professionalism back in the government functioning. People are happily returning to the offices.
