Hisar: An information received by noted RTI activist Rakesh Verma from the Planning Commission suggests that a poor person in the country is spending a paltry sum of Rs 16 a day on his food on an average whereas comparatively much bigger sum of money is being spent on the lavish tea parties and breakfasts of the politicians.

Ramesh Verma, a national award winner RTI activist, received the information that Rs 75,000 is being spent by each of the five Chief Ministers of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Bihar on tea, breakfast and mineral water.

Remarkably, the RTI activist had sought details of expenditure over tea parties arranged by the Chief Ministers of these states. He was informed that that our leaders were spending 150-200 times more on their tea parties in comparison to the simple meal consumed by a common man.

RTI query was sent to the Chief Ministers of these states four months ago asking them to furnish details of expenditure over tea as well as breakfast in their respective states.

In a stunning revelation, the RTI information says that Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is spending Rs 6500 a day on tea and breakfast which reaches to Rs 1,95,000 a month.

Notably, Bihar Chief Minister’s office reportedly spent lowest which is Rs 8,170 over tea parties and breakfasts.

Delhi: Rs 67,156

Himachal: Rs 49, 756

Punjab: Rs 1, 95,002
