Chandigarh: Unfolding the nexus of child traffickers in the city, Chandigarh police on Sunday detained two people Dorjee and Hamkamji, who used to transport minor children from Bihar to Himachal Pradesh and vice-versa. The duo who hail from Leh and Bihar respectively were arrested from Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT), sector 17 area.

Divulging the details, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Deshraj Singh informed, nearly 14 children between the age group of 6 to 17 were rescued on Sunday at the city bus terminal. The children belonged to Bihar and were being taken to Manali in Himachal, Singh said.

“These children were purchased at a mere price of Rs 500 and were shown dreams of high living and standard life”, the ASP added.

The senior police officer also revealed that the children were rescuedand the pair was nabbed after getting information from informants.

“These children were to be kept as helpers in hotels and small restaurants. They were even provided places to reside”, Singh said.

Informing that the gang was active since last three years, ASP alleged that the whole nexus involved certain hotel owners and government officers in it too.

The police are likely to press for police remand of the two child traffickers for at least two weeks to investigate the case further.
