New Delhi: After the Indian companies expressed their inability to construct the main pillar of the Yamuna Signature bridge, Chinese firms have been assigned to build the tower.

The tower (main pillar) will bear all weights of the bridge. The construction of this tower is expected to start in next three months and the work will be completed within eight months.

The 174- metre high tower weighing 8, 000 tonne will be brought in India in pieces wherein each one will weigh almost two tonne. Special arrangements will be made to bring the tower in India. The cost of the tower will be pegged at Rs 631 crore.

Earlier, the tower was expected to be built in India. When no company came forward to construct it, the task was handed over to China.

After getting satisfied with technical aspect, Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation decided to handover the task to China.
