During his two-day visit to India, Wang Yi, who will arrive here as a special envoy of China’s President Xi Jinping, will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

The objective of the visit is to establish contact with the new government of India. The visit is an important element of the Year of India-China Friendly Exchanges and will provide further momentum to the India-China Strategic and Cooperative Partnership.

Earlier, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang had called up Modi and congratulated him for the victory in the Lok Sabha polls. Li conveyed the Chinese government's desire to establish robust partnership with Modi government.

India runs a USD 40 billion trade deficit with China and new government is expected to seek greater market access to reduce that gap.
