According to the police, Laxman Singh was agent of Ramel and Support India group and resided in Tepania area in Gomati district. He collected about Rs 10 lakh from several depositors, who were putting pressure on him to return the money. The police said that he was depressed and was living alone.

Singh left his home on Tuesday night. Villagers found his body hanging from a tree on the same night, the police added. Singh is survived by his wife, a 12-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter.
After the Saradha scam came to light, the Tripura Government ordered an inquiry into the operations of chit fund firms and later handed over the probe to the CBI. According to official sources, many chit fund firms were still operating in the state.
