Bettiah: A clash erupted between some Nepali and Indian villagers over water issues on Thursday evening near Bhikhnathori border in Bihar.

Irate Nepalese reportedly pelted stones on Indian villagers when they went to release canal water for irrigation. Dozen of them from both the sides including a SSB inspector Kiranvir Singh were injured in the incident which escalated tensions in the area.

Senior district officials rushed to the spot after clashes broke out and have been camping here since Thursday evening.

Three canals near Ujali hill in the district have been used by adjoining villages in Nepal and India for Irrigation purpose. Out of those three, Nepali villagers use one canal, but on Monday they were alleged to have diverted waters from other two canals which are used by Indian villagers. When Indian villagers on Thursday reached the spot, they were allegedly attacked.
