Lucknow: The CPI (Communist Party of India) on Wednesday asked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to shelve the inauguration of the Yamuna Expressway on Thursday till all dues were cleared to the farmers whose land had been acquired for it.

"The chief minister needs to shelve the inauguration of the Expressway in the interest of the farmers and common people", CPI state secretary Dr Girish said in a press release.

"The service provider has not yet cleared the dues of the farmers whose land was acquired for the Expressway. The service roads linking this Expressway have also not been made", Girish claimed.

"The most startling is the toll tax fixed for this Expressway which is as high as Rs 2.10 per km for small vehicles like cars and much more for bigger vehicles", he said, adding that it should be lowered to Rs 1 and Rs 2, respectively.
