Rawat made the request during a telephonic conversation with Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, an official release here said.

The Chief Minister spoke to the Railway Minister Prabhu on phone and requested him to relax the norms for Uttarakhand considering its challenging weather and vulnerability to natural disasters, strategic importance and limited resources at its disposal while clearing rail link projects under consideration, it said.

Rawat said Uttarakhand shares borders with China which has developed basic infrastructure in a big way close to the frontiers.
Keeping the sensitive location in consideration, Uttarakhand must get priority in rail projects. Since Uttarakhand has limited resources, it must get relaxation in norms as well, he was quoted as telling the Union Minister.
