Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday demanded an "immediate" ban on the anti-Islam film, that triggered protests in several parts of the world.

Akhilesh shot off a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and requested an "immediate and strict ban" on the film on Youtube, as well as on other websites, an official spokesman said.

The Chief Minister said the film was hurting the sentiments of Muslims.

Earlier on Wednesday, a delegation of Islamic centre of India, led by Imam Maulana Khalid Rashid, met the chief minister at his official residence here and asked him to request the Centre to ban the movie.

The Chief Minister while assuring members of the delegation said the state government will take every possible step in this regard, the spokesman said.
