Bhopal: The Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangathan (BGPMUS) on Wednesday accused Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of betraying the victims of the Bhopal Gas Disaster of December 1984.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the Sangathan Convenor Abdul Jabbar alleged that the Chief Minister on Dec 3, the 27th anniversary of the disaster, had promised adequate compensation for the gas victims but he faltered on his assurance.

Jabbar also added that the Centre had approved Rs 982.25 crore rehabilitation package but even on this, no steps have been taken for its implementation.

Jabbar also said the state government has not yet prepared a revised list of gas affected people so that more victims could be compensated.

The Centre had filed a civil curative petition in the Supreme Court demanding a revision in the number of people affected by gas tragedy. In the next hearing in the case, the court will be informed about the revised figure of affected people.

BGPMUS has said that they will take out a rally on Dec 31 asking the government to prepare a revised list of the gas affected people.
