New Delhi: Former coal secretary HC Gupta, who resigned as member of Competition Commission of India (CCI), was on Thursday questioned by CBI in connection with coal blocks allocation scam.

Summoned as an accused, Gupta, a 1971 batch IAS officer, faced many questions about the allocation of coal blocks to some selected companies during his stint (2006-2009) as secretary in the Coal Ministry.

During his tenure, 68 coal blocks were allotted to 151 companies and files of some of them had gone missing.

CBI, which is probing the coal block allocation scam, has registered 13 FIRs related to alleged irregularities in the allotment of coal blocks between 2006 and 2009.
