Lucknow, Jan 10 (Agencies): Eight more people died due to severe cold conditions in different parts of Uttar Pradesh, taking the toll in the state this winter to 89.

Two persons died due to cold in Hardoi and as many were reported dead in Kannauj and Siddharth Nagar districts, while one death was reported from Gonda and Fatehpur since on Sunday evening, officials said here.

Cold wave conditions prevailed in most parts of the state, MeT department officials today said, adding that cloud cover persisted at many places in the state.

Etawah and Orai were the coldest places in the state with 2 degree C while state capital Lucknow recorded a minimum of 5 degree C this morning, which was two degrees below normal.

Varanasi recorded a low of 4 degree C, four notches below normal.

Kanpur shivered at 4.7 degree C, which was three notches below normal, while the minimum temperature in Allahabad hovered at 5.8, three degrees below normal.
