Chandigarh, Jan 07 (Agencies): Piercing cold wave remained unabated in Punjab and Haryana, with minimum temperature dropping by upto five degrees below normal.

With biting cold conditions sweeping across northern region, Narnaul in Haryana remained the coldest place in both states by recording a low of 0.7 degree Celsius, MET office said on Friday

In Haryana, Karnal recorded a minimum of 2 degree Celsius, while Hisar and Rohtak recorded respective lows of  2.5 degree Celsius and 2.1 degree Celsius, down by four and two degrees.

Ambala had a low of 3.5 deg C, down 3 notches. In Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded a minimum of 4 degree Celsius and 2.3 degree Celsius respectively, while Amritsar had a low of 5 degree Celsius, up by 2 degrees.

Dense fog at majority of places in both states continued to disrupt vehicular movement and delayed some trains. According to MeT forecast, severe cold conditions during night will continue, while day temperature may see some rise in next 4-5 days, though it will mainly be dry.
