"During a review meeting, the Chief Minister directed Principal Secretary (Energy) to inspect under-construction power projects, especially Lalitpur, Bara and Anpara D, and get them completed at the earliest so that people of the state start getting power from next year," a spokesman said in a statement issued in Lucknow.
Akhilesh ordered launch of a state-wide campaign to issue new power connections and check pilferage.
He said that it should be ensured that poor people are not harassed and better facilities are provided to honest consumers.
The Chief Minister said that setting up of 33/11 KV sub-stations at the tehsil level must be completed by September this year.
He said that the facility of bill payment through card and net banking has been launched and it should be publicized and arrangements should be made wherein consumers can get information about their electricity bill on their mobile phones.
Directing officials to take immediate action on complaints, Akhilesh said that call centers have been opened at distribution companies.
He said that the government was paying special attention on power reforms in rural areas.
