Dehradun: Congress nominee Saket Bahuguna on Friday filed his nomination for the October 10 Tehri Lok Sabha bypoll in which he will take on BJP nominee Maharani Raj Lakshmi Shah, a member of the erstwhile Tehri royal family.
Saket filed his papers before the Returning Officer Ravinath Raman at the collectorate here in the presence of top Congress leaders including Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna, state party chief Yashpal Arya and AICC incharge of the party's affairs in the state Chaudhry Virendra Singh.
The Tehri seat fell vacant after Saket's father and Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna resigned from it following his victory from Sitarganj Assembly constituency.
The seat is likely to witness a neck to neck fight as Saket, the elder son of the chief minister is pitted there against Raj Lakshmi Shah, the daughter-in-law of the late Maharaja Manvendra Shah who represented the constituency in the Lok Sabha for a record eight times.
Seeking votes for himself at a campaign rally at the Parade Ground earlier in the day, Saket said as his father had to resign midway to take over the reins of the state, the people should ensure his victory so that he could complete his father's unfinished task.
