New Delhi: When Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) are ready with the list of their party candidates for next year’s Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, BJP and Congress are lagging far behind. They are still in search of suitable candidates whom they can field for the Assembly elections.

In the prevailing conditions, Congress and BJP will not be able to declare their list of candidates before the month of May.

However, Congress strategists feel, even if the party has not selected its candidates yet, the observers within the party have already carried out the assessment of all the Assembly seats.

Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh is studying the reports while party general secretary Rahul Gandhi is busy assessing the chances of the candidates who can win the elections.

Rahul Gandhi has also pointed out several contradictory facts in the report submitted by Congress supervisors. Therefore, the screening of candidates for the seats is being renewed.

Congress strategists are hopeful that the party will be ready with the list by month of May.

The BJP, which is hopeful of improving its position in the state polls, has decided to chalk out its strategy after assessing its strength in the five rallies scheduled to be held in different parts of the state. The party has till date organised only one rally in Meerut; and it is yet to hold rallies in Agra, Varanasi, Faizabad and Gorakhpur by end of May.

According to party sources, potential candidates have already been decided for 125 seats. After May 15, not only the selection of candidates will fasten but also the party will start announcing the names of the candidates.
