New Delhi: The fear of brother versus sister that could surface in the run up to UP elections is obstructing Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s campaigning for Congress candidates out of the first family’s traditional fiefdoms, Amethi and Rai Bareilly.

The Congress is mounting pressure on Priyanka to share the dais with Rahul in the rallies to be held at Farrukhabad, Barabanki, Lucknow and Allahabad. Priyanka has not yet decided in this regard fearing that possible comparison by media between her and Rahul may give a twist.

Sources said Priyanka is likely to visit Amethi and Rai Bareilly from January 16. Significantly, she has been handling these two constituencies for the last few elections.

In 2004, she had campaigned in Sultanpur Parliamentary constituency in favour of Captain Satish Sharma who is very close to the Gandhi family. All the Congress candidates want Priyanka to visit their constituencies.

Since the UP elections are revolving around Rahul, party president Sonia Gandhi herself is likely to hold selected rallies. Post surgery, she visited only twice in poll bound Uttarakhand. She is yet to visit politically important UP.

However, the poll managers of the Congress are of view that if Priyanka holds rallies out of Amethi and Rai Bareilly, she could swing the public mood in favour of the party candidates.

At the same time, the first family does not want any comparison between brother and sister. That is why Priyanka is reluctant to hold rallies out of Amethi and Rai Bareilly.

Neither UP election campaign committee chairman Sriprakash Jaiswal nor election media campaign committee chairman Raj Babbar is in a position to comment on the sensitive issue.
