“When elections approach, Congress people start chanting 'poor, poor, poor’. The government at the Centre has not been able to benefit anyone,” he said while addressing an election rally in Bareilly.

Modi appealed to the people to vote for the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

“For 60 years you chose ‘shasaks’, now for a change choose a ‘sevak’. Give me 60 months and you will see the change,” he said.

Taking a jibe at the Uttar Pradesh government, Modi said the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav could not even handle Gujarati lions.

"Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister was asking for lions. We gave it to him. We thought he would get some strength but he could not handle Gujarati lions,” he added.

Modi says he was kept waiting at Delhi airport

Modi claimed that aviation authorities at the Delhi airport did not give prompt permission to his helicopter for taking off due to which he was late for his rally here.

"I apologise to you for arriving late as you had to sit in this heat. But this delay was not because of me. At the Delhi airport I sat from 9.30 AM onwards but our helicopter was not being given the permission to fly," Modi told the gathering here.

The BJP leader said that normally he tries that "nobody is inconvenienced because of him but I am pained that you had to face this blistering sun".

"You are doing this penance in this heat, I assure you that I will never let this effort go waste," he told the gathering.
