Bhopal: Launching an attack at the BJP led Madhya Pradesh government, the Congress on Friday demanded CBI probe into the brutal killing of young IPS officer Narendra Kumar and has called for a state-wide bandh on March 13 to protest the murder.

“The Shivraj Singh Chouhan government has failed to serve its constitutional duties and is solely responsible for the thriving mining mafia in the state. The IPS officer has given his life for the sake of the country and we don’t want it to go waste. Therefore, we have called for a Madhya Pradesh bandh on March 13 protesting the murder,” said Congress unit chief Kantilal Bhuria and Opposition leader Ajay Singh.

“He was an honest officer who has sacrificed his life fighting against the mining mafia in the state. His death is a brutal conspiracy which must be probed by the CBI to unearth the truth.” said Singh.

When asked about the charges made by the Chief Minister over the involvement of Congress leaders in illegal mining in the state, Bhuria said, “Who has stopped the Chief Minister to order probe against the suspects. Why doesn’t he put the accused behind the bars? He is free to carry probe against any suspect belonging to any party.”

While answering a question, Leader of the Opposition Ajay Singh said, “We don’t want to politicise the death of an honest officer. But the insensitive attitude of state Home Minister Uma Shanker Gupta and Mining Minister Ashish Shukla in the entire episode is highly shameful. They must step down for their inefficiency in handling the growth of illegal mining in the state.”
