Speaking to reporters at foundation laying ceremony of a government school, Badal said that the Congress got scared regarding its prospects in the general polls next year due to the popularity of Modi across the country.

"Congress which is knee-deep in corruption does not have a leader to match the stature of Modi and that is why it has still not announced its PM candidate even though only few months are remaining for the general elections," he alleged.

"Not only people of the state, but public across the country are making preparations to ensure the Gujarat Chief Minister becomes the next PM as it is the need of the hour," Badal said.

Badal also alleged that the anti-people and irrational policies of the UPA regime have retarded the growth of Punjab and rest of the country.
