Dehradun: The Congress central election committee has finalized names of 47 candidates for 70 seats in poll-bound Uttarakhand. Despite several rounds of discussion, the party high command failed to form consensus over remaining 23 seats. It is likely that the Congress will declare the names of the candidates soon.

In a meeting held at Union Minister Mukul Vasnik residence in New Delhi, the party members discussed about the tickets distribution and approved names of candidates to be fielded in 47 assembly constituencies. As a matter of fact, the demands put forth by the strong candidates to get constituency of their choice delayed approval over remaining seats.

Owing to the internal dissensions between the party members over the ticket distribution, the party high command put the names of candidates to be fielded in Dehradun, Haridwar and other regions of Garhwal and Kumaon region on hold.

Meanwhile, another faction of the party pressed their demands to declare the names of the candidates on Janauray 4 after Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s public rally at Rudrapur.
