New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s scathing attack on the Gandhi family and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the BJP national council meeting on Sunday has irked the Congress leaders.

Taking exception to Modi’s remarks against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Information and Broadcasting, Manish Tewari said, “The then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee had reminded the Gujarat Chief Minister of 'Raj Dharma' during the infamous 2002 riots in the state.” Vajpayee had also held Modi responsible for the BJP’s drubbing in 2004 Lok Sabha elections added Tewari.

"His speech is a bundle of lies. Today, he is heaping praises on Pranab Mukherjee. If the Gujarat CM had courage and conviction, then why did he not support Mukherjee in the Presidential elections?” asked Shukla.

By spending crores of rupees for self propaganda, if someone thinks that he has become a national leader then he is mistaken said the Congress leader.

Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi retorted, "Manmohan Singh is the Prime Minister of the country and not just of the Congress. His name should be taken with respect. His honour is the country's honour."

Addressing the BJP national council meeting on Sunday, Modi said that the Congress didn’t try to develop the country. Modi also told the Congress sacrificed the interests of the country for one family.
