State Congress president Pratap Singh Bajwa and PPP chief Manpreet Badal announced about the alliance during a press conference in Chandigarh on Tuesday. During the conference, Bajwa called Manpreet brother and also said that a joint campaign committee will be formed along with a separate election manifesto for Punjab.

PPP chief Manpreet Badal is planning to contest the polls against his sister-in-law and Akali Dal candidate Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Bhatinda seat. Manpreet said that Bhatinda seat will witness a historical political battle in this year’s Lok Sabha polls.

“Punjab needs to be freed from clutches of wretched people and those who have defamed the state’s image,” he said.

“It was our party’s objective right from the beginning to unite against Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party. This understanding (between Opposition parties) will cost Akali Dal and BJP dearly,” Manpreet added
